The Opportunity | About Business Development
The Opportunity | About Business Development
Venture Energy is building the world’s largest network of marine power infrastructure. As vessels start to integrate battery solutions into their fuel mix, the requirement for the market to build charging and shore-power infrastructure is increasing. Projects are being financed and developed at a rapid pace to meet this emerging need. We are working with vessel operators, port groups, regulators, and power companies to deliver for shipowners.
The Engineering Team is at the forefront of this program, developing high-quality infrastructure on short timescales. This is an exciting time; we’re simultaneously building in multiple locations across the Greater Bay, testing feasibility in markets across Asia, and partnering with exisiting marine infrastructure facilities on the Chinese Mainland. This is a new solution for a new industry, and you can be part of Venture Energy’s mission, together with our partners, to build it.
We are looking for a multi-skilled entrepreneurial candidate, having broad experience in business development, commercial and account management within the marine/ports sector. This is an important appointment within Venture Energy and the role will evolve as we grow as an organisation. You will be expected to have a positive impact in Business Development with Ports and Terminals, and lines, across Greater China and North Asia.
Assisting and supporting the Leadership Team in securing market entry will be dominant in the beginning (e.g. 6-12 months), with the immediate focus on identifying new leads and creating new opportunities for our contracts team. The role requires travel across China which will account for up-to 50% of the role, for meetings with ports and terminals in the region, including for events and key stakeholders.
We expect the successful candidate to have:
- Broad understanding of the global marine industry and strong knowledge in the ports and terminal sector.
- Strong network of relationships in the marine and ports and terminals sector in Greater China and North Asia
- Knowledge of the main players in ports and terminals with broad understanding of their commercial and business strategies across Asia
- Interest and passion for marine and/or renewable energy and decarbonation.
- Skilled communicator and initiator of business partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Exceptional customer relationship skills
- Ability to initiate, develop and nurture relationships with customers at all levels of the organisation including C-Suite.
- Effective and persuasive communicator with strong presentation skills and ability to influence decision makers.
- Able to conduct market research on prospects and stakeholders, analyse their respective business models and recommend what type of business NatPower Marine could be doing with them.
- Support with other business activities as appropriate.
- Collaborative approach, ability to identify strategic partnerships and joint opportunities that mutually benefit all parties.
You will be required to think and make decisions both at a high level; analytically, in financial or strategic terms, but also work at the operational level; building relationships, solving problems, and executing the plans we develop.
You will need to respond dynamically to changing circumstances and requirements. It is anticipated our mandate will flex as the market develops, and you will be capable of identifying these shifts and responding to challenges and opportunities in the market as they arise.
Venture Energy is currently at a start-up phase of development. We expect it to grow substantially in the next 2-3 years. In this time, we expect you will take responsibility for components of the business and manage staff within these units.
Expect to travel regularly, both in Mainland China, across Asia, and further afield in Europe.

The Challenge | Marine Decarbonisation
The Challenge | Marine Decarbonisation
90% of the world’s trade moves by sea. That’s approximately 11 billion tonnes of goods; or about 1.5 tonnes per person each year. Today almost all the ships serving this US$14 trillion industry burn fuel oil, a dirty, high-carbon, fuel. This is not sustainable.
The maritime industry is entering a phase of dislocation. EU and IMO rules are forcing shipowners, traders, operators and supply-chain companies to adopt clean fuels for their vessels. By 2050, the shipping industry will be net-zero. Today, almost none of it is.
That means over the next 25 years, the market will need to invest up to US$60 billion per year, every year. To decarbonise our industry will need to build plants, re-engineer ships, develop supply-chains, new infrastructure, and totally re-imagine the services our industry needs. There are vast gaps in our supply chain that need to be filled, and quickly. Venture Energy’s mandate is to plug those gaps.
